Looking for a chew my dog can chew on :)

My dog isn't a huge fan of Stag bars. He gets fed up of them very easily. I used to buy him raw hide chews, but since suffering from Pancreatitis I no longer buy him those kind of chews.

He does need something to chew on, as he is destroying his toys now.

Would be grateful if someone can offer recommendations :)

Have you tried nylabones? They're the only thing Gitdog can have, he's too much of a power chewer for anything else. He does get bored with it, so I play with him with it for a bit, throwing it for him to fetch or using it as a tug toy, then he'll settle down for a good munch.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I think I tried one a while back and he just ignored it lol. He does get a denti stick once a day.

Funnily enough I was searching the net for possible chew options and came across this website. It doesn't recommend giving dogs hard chews like stag bars ect. What it says makes a lot of sense too.

Zooplus have a large range of treats, natural and processed. I don't know if the lower fat natural treats will be an option - e.g. rabbit ears, dried chicken.

Alternatively, you could invest in a dehydrator and create your own! You can then select the un-fatty cuts of meat to dehydrate, and things like sweet potato could work too.
  • The lower the fat the better. He's now on a low fat diet to control the Pancreatitis. Also needs to be digestible too.

I will have a look on Zooplus :)

For you OP & also Elsien's dear angel Gitdog!!! :D

Try these they are like Nylabones but they have a really strong Beefy / OXO smelling paste in the centre of the plastic. My girl loves hers much more than the proper Nylabones and they are usually quite a bit cheaper too!

    Lots of good reviews too!

My vet said raw hide stuff and pigs ears were too fattening. We too have stag bars about the place, I buy the tripe filled calcium bones . I havnt tried the bull horns yet?
  • I think I'm going to buy my girl a stag bar, never tried her with one of those! :)

What do you do - how do you store them? like do you just leave it out all the time or give it as a treat now and again keep it somewhere cold in between?

    Probably stupid questions....but I'm clueless!! :o
