OH has a small business website (using the dialspace.pipex service which is currently owned by Talktalk.) It disappeared last week and a message appeared saying it had been taken down by Verizon. Verizon, contacted, knew nothing. Talktalk contacted, knew nothing. Now the emails have started arriving, in poor English, claiming to be from Verizon uk.business, saying for a fee we may be able to reactivate it. Just give us your credit card details....
Obviously he hasn't fallen for that. We have forwarded demands to Talktalk but clearly as the hosts, their security has failed for all their dialspace customers. (We have checked and all the dialspace sites are down).
What happens next?

It depends on what software/CMS you're using for your website. If you use something provided by TT/Pipex, then they're at fault. If it's something you installed like Joomla or Wordpress, then it's your own fault. In this case you're responsible for installing security updates. Maybe the easiest is to restore the latest backup. You do have a backup, do you?
Without knowing your domain name we only can guess what is going on.0 -
It can't be anything to do with the software used to build the website as every single pipex dialspace user has been hacked, including the site used by pipex to describe dialspace. There must be a range of different webdesign tools used by the various sites hacked. And in any case all dialspace do is host they websites, they do not provide any software to build them.
So how have the hackers go into a webspace hosting site?
and yes it is backed up...0 -

Ok this has happened to me and I emailed verizon who tell me that the web hosting server has been turned off and that all direct customers were told about this last year, just seem TalkTalk do not want the business although they are still billing, I intend to report them to ofcom.0
