Buying a car 'as is' from a dealer

Thanks for all the replys! I've emailed the dealer, pointed out the situation but they just said to give them a ring! Which hubby will do when he is home tomorrow.
On a happier note, lots of goodies for the car has arrived so I will test the airbag thingymabob tonight and go from there! But I'm thinking along the same lines as Joe Horner, I think if it was a quick fix it would have been done already!
Our reason for going for this car is that we had 2k saved! Hubby has been abroad working for the last year and in that time his work has moved camps and this time not particularly near a train station adding the cost of a taxi to his commute! So we wanted something with low milage, diesel and in a suitable condition! We thought this car ticked all those boxes! The only things wrong with the car (or what we were told) was the interior was grubby, slight rip in the door card, parking sensors were dodgy. When we did our 'look like we know what we're doing' check of the car, I noticed the exhaust was abit loose which we have already fixed! The dealer said they would get those bits fixed for us! We said knock the price down and we will fix them ourselves! That's why it was 'sold as seen' so I wouldn't agree that it was close to scrap worthy. It's a nice little car, well it would be if we just left the stupid dash on0 -
Well, it has brought up 5 fault codes and it's going to be an experience working our way through them. although I haven't checked again since we reset it so hopefully it may have cleared some.0

Unfortunately it didn't wipe any of the codes but we know where to start now! I'm not holding out much hope of help from the dealer so I guess it will just be a little project.0

Good luck - just don't get into the replacing expensive bits hoping the faults go away, sometimes interconnecting wiring etc can be the problem and much harder to trace.
An old classic car would be so much more fun and within your abilities if you are looking for a project to tidy up together - assuming you can get something with sound mechanics and body to start with.0 -
So whats the dealers verdict here have they been called?0

Well hubby spoke to the bloke who sold the car - he genuinely sounded surprised! But the manager wasn't in so we left a number for him to call back!0

What codes have you recorded?0

From the thread my advice would be to walk away from the car. Ignore the emotion, if you can return the car at no cost to yourself then do so and buy something closer to what you can work with. In law, this would be a lot of hassle and for the wrong reasons would probably cost more than the repair.
Lots of people quote SOGA and all that but when it comes to following it through it can become expensive.0 -
Finally we have managed to speak to someone, we kept being told the manager was out and to email, then the guy picking up the emails tried telling me they were accessed externally so I'd need to write in! My husband said they were really good on the phone, obviously tried to shift the blame and said it was sold as is so what do you expect but when they realised we arnt just trying to pull a fast one that we really like the car and arnt just trying to get a refund as we changed our mind he asked my husband what solution would he be happy with! They are going to call back tomorrow once it's been talked over with the other manager! So I'll give them credit where it's due, they haven't said outright to !!!!!! off so there is a little ray of hope!0
