Pump found under property

We have just had an offer accepted on our first home. The sale of the property recently fell through. I asked the estate agent why and was told that there was a pump found underneath the property when the searches were done to stop it from flooding and the buyer did not want to go ahead.


The property is not in a flood risk area however sits at the end of a close of properties where there is no road access to the other properties.


There was no signs of rising damp however we did notice that half of the path was paved and half was gravel possibly indicating a drainage issue.


Anyone come across this before or have any ideas what this could be??

Sounds more like BS ? buyer getting cold feet? Have you seen the pump, heard it, is it in a sump pit. are there signs of water a pump would certainly not remove it all, were does it pump too, where is it powered,. who put it in , more importantly who owns it? are they talking water board etc have one under your home? If they do then you’d likely know about it as there would be a Covenants, Wayleave or Easement to gain access to change, repair, maintain it or are they talking 10s of meters below in some abandoned mine etc If the previous owner put one in as you don't need to inform anyone to an extent that wouldn’t show up on any searches ?
