Take no notice pk. You need a thick skin to brave these forums (or any for that matter). Pick the pearls as you find them and ignore the sewage.
I recall helping my sister-in-law and family move house; moving day came and we were trying to move wardrobes full of clothes and the fridge was still fully stocked, including open bottles of milk. I was a bit irritated at first and then thought, it's the first time they've moved.
Some are just too quick to judge and assume everyone should know the 'obvious stuff'.
Hope everything goes well for you.0 -
As its a repo and you rightly pointed out someone could pitch in a higher bid right up to exchange - then INSIST on an agreed exchange with completion a week or so later so you know exactly where you are and when you are moving - so you can pack up and plan accordinglyStuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland

Untrue, either side can pull out after exchange but will be financially penalised for doing so.
Well if you want to be pedantic...
Your statement is also untrue, either side can attempt to pull out but a judge can grant Specific Performance and force the sale to go ahead.Every generation blames the one before...

But jc808's point is that you are paying your solicitor so that you can get definitive answers to any questions you have, so why not make use of that? In this case the question was simple and easily answered, but your next one might not be.0 -

Thanks densol, I will be insisting on that indeed.0 -
Your solicitor really should have explained the basic process to you.
That's part of what you are paying them for.
You are spending tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds -you are bound to have questions and yours was a basic one that they should have covered in standard correspondence to you anyway.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

jc808 didn't have to be ignorant about it. Just to answer your question:
It was a Sunday - my solicitor was obviously closed,
It was playing on my mind,
I thought I would get a fast, satisfactory answer on MSE (which I did).
If everyone made sole, exclusive contact with solicitors, accountants and mortgage/financial advisers for advice what would be the point of these forums?0 -

Many of us regularly suggest that people do just that when they are already paying for the privilege of access to professionals. Your question was hardly of such urgency that it could not wait for a few hours, but hopefully in this case you are happy with the answers that the forum community had provided.0
