Hi, My landlord has asked me for my gas/elec company and ref number and also council tax band and ref number? I thought they might want the company I have been using for gas/elec but don't know what reference number they mean and why they would need this?

I usually provide them with details of who the utility suppliers are and the final meter readings. I don't give them the account numbers because they are my accounts, not the properties. I once had a LL with a PA who was thick as mince, make a right mess of the gas and electric when I moved into a flat so there was no way she was getting my account details when I left. No other LL/LA has asked for them.
As for the council tax band, there's no harm in telling him but I'm surprised he doesn't already know that.0 -
Thanks Pixie5740 that's what I thought, I can't understand why they would want my reference numbers when they are MY accounts!0

Just tell them the companies you use but you need to make sure you take final readings and let the gas and electric people know to draw up a final bill. How can the LL not know the council tax band of his house?0
