Moving from Southern Electric - Check your final bill
Options
I switched electricity and gas 3 days ago to First Utility and viewed my final bills from Southern today. I have always paid by monthly DD which gives me a reduced daily standing charge of 21.92p. My final bills show a daily standing charge of 32.36p per fuel. I'm well in credit on my accounts and to be on the safe side I cancelled my DD beginning of this week. It looks like they have billed me at the higher rate that is charged for non-DD payers. I've emailed them asking them to put it right and refund the difference - currently awaiting their response. I can't see that I'm unique here (add a post if you've been overcharged as well), so if you have recently switched from Southern, or are about to - CHECK YOUR FINAL BILLS!!

Surely this advice applies to any supplier, not just Southern Electric? Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Isn't it a condition of the tariff that an active DD is kept in place? Surely until the account is closed, you need to do just that.
I can see your point of view, but if Southern are playing by the rules of the tariff they are not at fault - although ethically wrong it seems as your account was in credit so no further DDs should have been necessary.0 -
I've just received a call from a very nice guy at Southern Electric Customer Services who thanked me for bringing this to their attention. As I thought, the final bill IS incorrect - it should have still reflected the lower daily standing charge and they will be relcalulating and sending a cheque this week. So I again suggest that you check the same doesn't happen to you if you're leaving Southern.0
