After suggestions for some amusing replies

Options
Can't think of a decent title for the thread. :wall:, but hopefully I'll get a few suggestions here.

I'm helping organise a sort of online Secret Santa. There's a list of gifts, and people will be able to reserve whatever they're planning to get, after which no-one else will be able to reserve it.
If someone changes their mind and 'un-reserves' something, it may end up not being bought, as others may have tried to reserve it and been unable to.
To help overcome this we've decided to have a message displayed to let everyone know if this happens.

This is where I'm hoping to take advantage of the combined imaginative brainpower of MSE.

All that's been suggested as the message is something like
Santa heard you'd been naughty this year, so decided not to bring you ***** gift after all.
It was suggested we have a list of possible messages, and one is chosen at random each time to make it a bit more fun.

It's adults only there, so doesn't need to be child friendly, and innuendo type comments would also be welcome. I'm sure there's one in there somewhere about Santa's sack:think:, but I'm struggling to come up with anything.

I've still got a couple of months to sort it, but would sure appreciate some ideas if anyone has anything to offer.

  • I have to admit I have read this a couple of times now and I am also at a loss... Glad I'm not the only one :)

  • So if someone cancels their secret Santa order, then the person they were supposed to be giving to doesn't get a gift but gets a cheeky message about Santa's empty sack instead??

It's not a Secret Santa, but more of a cross between that and a wedding list, but all the details are online, on another forum. Details of who has decided to get each item, and which items have been reserved, have been kept hidden. Only one of each item is wanted though.

If someone tries to reserve something from the list, then no one else can reserve it. If someone tries, they will be told it’s already reserved.
The problem is, if the person who decided to get it changes their mind. Others will think it’s already taken. To overcome this, a message will be posted to let everyone know it’s available again.

I was just asked to come up with some humorous messages if this happens, but I’m struggling to think of any.

I think you have too much time on your hands

Unfortunately these things don't organise themselves.;)
You think I have too much time. What about the person who wrote the software that runs it! The database was custom written for it. Over 3000 lines of code apparently

Almost. If someone cancels, the item is put back on the list.
The message is to let people know it's available again so that it does not get missed, as someone else can reserve it.

Ahh I see! What about something along the lines of "The elves have been busy in their workshop and a brand new shiny xxxxx is under the tree" "Santa heard you'd been good so he's added xxxxx to his sack" "The Christmas elves would be very sad if no one chooses the xxxxx they have been working so hard on" erm.....can't think of anymore!

It will be relating to items which may be missing, so that's a good one thanks.

Seemed like a good idea at the time, but when I try to think of anything it's always harder. Maybe after a few drinks to soften the grey matter I'll think of some. :D
