Running low on memory

When I open google street view on my ipad, within a minute a message pops up informing me that google street view is running low on memory. I don't know what if anything I should do, do you.

Close down any apps running in the background that you aren't currently using to free up some memory.

Applications such as Google Earth are notorious RAM hogs.

    Some options to try:
Ensure no other applications are running.
    Clear your cache.
To clear your cache, touch Clear Cache in the Options window. A confirmation dialog box appears. Touch Clear Cach

Neil, With limited time this am, how can you identify which apps are actually running, do you have to do this every time.

Exo, how often do you need to clear cache

I was surprised at how many Apple device users DIDN'T know this. For example my brother's iPhone 4S had dozens of apps running in the background - he was amazed when I showed him he could close those he didn't actually need running.

You oughtn't need to shut down other apps, as the operating system will do this itself if it needs the space, You may need to clear the browser cache though to free up memory

Thanks to each of you. Tomorrow when I have some "me" time, I will sit and concentrate on this. I have to say I did not know about double pressing home button and that it brought up recently viewed pages.

No hard and fast rules as it will vary with each user.
Clearing it once a month or once a fortnight will do no harm.

If a file(s) in the cache become corrupt, then it may cause problems.
Clear your current cache to see if things improve
    .

The browser cache merely allows the opening of web pages quicker from an already downloaded file stored from a previous web visit to a particular site. If the cache is cleared, then those files need to be downloaded again with the associated delay this causes, that may or may be not noticeable to the user.

It follows that the operating system automatically removes some of the cache anyway or it will become too big.
