Trouble with wireless connection for PC

I am hoping for some help. I have moved my Dads computer from his house to mine. He has an HP windows 7 professional Operating system PC
At his house he had it connected to the internet wirelessly.
I have set it up at my house. I run a laptop, netbook and smart phone all wirelessly and they are all working. However Dear old Dads is not finding the network. The router is right next to the PC, so its not a distance thing. I am currently connected to the internet via the ethernet cable.
The PC is to go to my MIL tomorrow providing I can get it to work properly.
Can anyone tell me how I can get the PC to 'see' the wireless network
Thanks for any help and suggestions

Searched for new networks? Is your wireless set to only be visible to connected devices?

    2.4ghz 5ghz?

    Firewall, fixed IP address?

  • Did he have a wireless dongle type thinghy, PC's don't usually come with a wireless card.

Presuming so, check it's enabled via control panel, you should see the network connection icon in the taskbar, is this showing any available networks ?

Usual checks, check you can see the network name (ssid) and any access password is correct. You can temporarily switch off access passwords via the router if you know what you are doing.

    Thanks chaps. I'll check
There was a funny little thing in a USB socket which my Dad didn't seem to know anything about. I was wondering if I needed that, but didn't take it. I'll ask him for it tomorrow. Also my mil has a usb thing on her current PC, so maybe that would work too
    Thanks again

sounds like either the micro-wifi dongle or micro-usb wireless mouse dongle. If dad didn't have a wireless mouse, it'll probably be the wifi adapter ;)
