NCD from van to car

Hi

I have had my license for almost 6 years but I had a couple of years where I was a named driver only so I lost all my NCD :(

I bought a van last year and started on zero NCD. I have now bought a car to replace the van. What I want to know is on the comparison sites can I claim to have one years NCD now? Does the discount transfer from a van to a car or does it depend on insurer?
I am getting a huge difference in quotes when I just add the one year into the mix and would love to use it if possible!!

    Not all will take it.

So put a year down them confirm with your chosen company before buying they accept it.

If you hit problems a local broker ( not swinton) will be able to help.

If its a trade policy then it maybe difficult to transfer back. My mate lost all his no claims.

You need to check before taking out the policy. If they refuse it the premium could rocket. Then there maybe admin fees also.

What do you mean by trade policy? I used the van for both business and personal use and this will be the same for the car.

I think I will get some quotes online and then ring the respective insurers and find out their individual policy. Thank you :)

If it was on a policy where your company insured it with multiple vehicles then you may struggle. If thats the case as for a letter that you were claim free for the year and some insurers may accept it.

I know from experience the big companies will allow NCD to be transferred from van to car but ring to check. If you are over 25 and been incident/claim free in the last 5 years do a quote on 0 NCD because some insurers give a bigger intro than the 1 year discount then give you 2 years next year.
I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.

go to a broker they will get you an introductory bonus
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Just thought I'd let you know that Hastings will not transfer NCD from van to car or vice versa.

Aviva confirmed that they will transfer it so Aviva it is! :)
