    Terms and Conditions

The FT ‘My Perfect Weekend’ competition ('FT Competition')
    Eligibility
    1
By entering into the FT Competition, participants agree to these terms and conditions and acknowledge that failure to comply with them may result in disqualification. The FT Competition shall be void where prohibited by law. All national, federal, state and local laws and regulations shall apply. These terms and conditions include all instructions of how to take part in the FT Competition.
    2
The FT Competition is open to legal residents of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore and the 50 United States. Participants must be aged 18 years of age or over at the time of entry. Employees and immediate family members of employees of The Financial Times Limited (“FT”) and their associated companies, professional advisers, advertising and promotional agencies are not eligible to take part in the FT Competition.
    3
There is no purchase necessary to win.
FT Competition Period and Entry Requirements
    4
To enter the FT Competition, participants must visit http://myftweekend.ft.com/ (“Website”) and describe their idea of a perfect weekend in English in no more than 100 words. If entries are over 100 words, FT may, in its absolute discretion, still accept such entries. Participants should also create a tweetable headline for their entry in no more than 140 characters. Entry period is from 9am BST on 8 July 2014 to 5pm BST on 30 September 2014 (“Closing Date”). Only one entry per person is permitted. Multiple or incomplete entries will be deemed to be invalid.
    5
Please note that by entering the FT Competition: (a) participants agree that they will assign and transfer to FT all rights, title and interest to their entries and that FT shall have all rights to copy, edit, publish and use entries, in whole or in part, in any way it sees fit; and (b) the winner agrees to take part in any publicity relating to the FT Competition by FT if the winner is invited to do so. In both cases, this will be without further compensation to participants (except where prohibited by law).
    6
In the event of any conflicts or inconsistencies between these Terms and Conditions and any other materials for the FT Competition, the provisions of these Terms and Conditions will take precedence to the extent of such conflict or inconsistency.
    Judging
    7
Members of the public may vote for their favourite entries on the Website until the Closing Date.
    8
The top ten entries with the most votes from members of the public as at the Closing Date will be submitted to be judged by Caroline Daniel, the editor of FT Weekend and Guy Phillipson, CEO at the Internet Advertising Bureau. These entries will be judged on the following criteria: (a) how interesting the entry is; (b) the originality of the entry; (c) the appropriateness of the entry to FT Weekend; and (d) the creativity of the entry. The winner will be chosen by FT on 10 October 2014. Application of the judging criteria to the entries will be at the judges’ sole discretion. The judges’ decisions are final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
    9
Entries must be original, of the participant’s own creation and written solely by the participant. Entries must not have been entered in any other competitions. An entry must be complete in itself (i.e. not a fragment of a larger work). Entries must not be offensive or defamatory, as determined by the judges, and entries must not infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.
    10
FT reserves the right to exclude any entries which it considers, in its absolute discretion, are impractical or inappropriate.
    Prize details
    11
The winning prize (“Prize”) consists of a three night stay in a minimum four star hotel to be chosen in FT’s absolute discretion for the winner and one traveling companion (if applicable); return economy flights from a main airport in the winner’s country of residence; and £500 (or local equivalent) of spending money. FT will also organize and pay for two activities from the winner’s ‘My Perfect Weekend’ entry. All Prize details are at FT’s sole discretion.
    12
Flights include taxes, fees and charges. The winner must pay any applicable departure taxes/surcharges. Unless FT confirms otherwise in writing to the winner, any additional taxes, transfers, connections and other local transportation, meals, beverages, travel insurance, upgrades, expenses, gratuities, extras and incidental costs associated with the Prize are not included and must be paid for by the winner.
    13
All dates for travel and accommodation are subject to availability, capacity control, black out dates and other restrictions outside the control of FT. Once a date has been arranged, trips must be taken on the dates specified or the Prize will be forfeited.
    14
The winner and his/her traveling companion are responsible for supplying valid passports. The prize winner is solely responsible for ensuring that they have the right foreign entry requirements and the appropriate medical insurance. FT recommends that all passengers consider travel and medical insurance prior to commencing any trip.
    15
The winner is fully responsible for any and all applicable national, federal, state and local taxes (including income and withholding taxes). In the event that FT is required to withhold taxes on behalf of the winner, then the amount of the Prize awarded to the winner will be paid net of any tax withheld.
    16
FT will only contribute up to a maximum of £10,000 (or local equivalent) for the Prize.
    Notification of Winner
    17
FT shall notify the selected winner via email by midnight BST on 17 October 2014 and provide details of how to claim the Prize. If the Prize is declined or unclaimed by the winner, or if the winner cannot be contacted from the details supplied within 3 business days of trying to notify them, a replacement winner may be chosen based on the above criteria at the FT’s discretion and will be notified by the FT. The original entry that was drawn will then be forfeited.
    18
The winner may be required to complete and return an eligibility form stating their age and residency details. The winner may also be required to execute additional documents or comply with additional steps as required in the relevant jurisdiction, or in FT’s discretion, to claim the Prize and FT will notify the winner of any such requirements when notifying the winner that they have won. If any of these requirements are not met by the winner by no later than 5pm BST on 24 October 2014, the Prize will be forfeited and a replacement winner chosen based on the above criteria at the FT’s discretion.
    19
The name and county of the winner will be available from 9am GMT on 31 October 2014 upon receipt by the FT of a self-addressed envelope at the following address: Marketing Team, The Financial Times, Number One, Southwark Bridge, London, SE1 9HL.
    20
The Prize is non-transferable, non-refundable and the non-cash elements of the prize have no cash value if not used.
    21
FT reserves the right to cancel, suspend or amend the FT Competition, or any part of it (including these Terms and Conditions) or change the Prize (to one of equivalent or greater value) as required by the circumstances in FT’s sole discretion. FT reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who has not complied with the letter or the spirit of these Terms and Conditions. Any failure by FT to enforce any provision in these Terms and Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
    Liability
    22
FT cannot accept responsibility for or liability arising from participants taking part in the FT Competition or for taking up the Prize. FT gives no warranty or guarantee in relation to the Prize and accepts no responsibility or liability for the Prize being amended by FT. FT is not responsible for (i) any incorrect or inaccurate information used in connection with the FT Competition; or (ii) technical failures of any kind or any technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the FT Competition. To the fullest extent permissible by law, FT excludes liability, and FT shall be released and held harmless by participants, for any damage, loss, liability or injury to person or property or for any claim arising as a result of the participant’s entry into the FT Competition or the participant’s acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the Prize.
    Governing Law and Jurisdiction
    23
If you are a legal resident of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong or Singapore, then these terms and conditions will be subject to English law. In this case, to the extent possible in the applicable jurisdiction, the participant agrees that the courts of England will have non-exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute, claim or cause of action which may arise out of, under, or in connection with these terms and conditions.
    24
If you are a legal resident of one of the 50 United States, then, to the extent possible, the participant agrees that: (1) any and all dispute, claim or cause of action which may arise out of, under, or in connection with these terms and conditions shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) and held at the AAA regional office nearest the participant; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act shall govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction; (4) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the FT Competition, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (5) under no circumstances will a participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and participant hereby waives, all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages (other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses) and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Terms and Conditions, or the rights and obligations of the participant in connection with the FT Competition, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of New York without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than State of New York.
