Storage heaters economy 7

Can someone confirm that you cannot just plug these into the wall?

I am in middle of an insurance claim about whether a radiator/heater of this type is buildings or contents. It was installed at the time the place was built and so most people class it as buildings related BUT my insurance is saying that only gas water filled heater/radiators are covered not eclectic. I think that they are assuming that they are the sort you buy in Argos and just plug in the wall.

A fixture is something installed permanently and cannot easily be removed. It's something you could not easily remove and take with you to a new home. I wouldn't know of anyone who would remove storage heaters when they sell the property.

Do you not have buildings and contents insurance?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Yes I do and that is the problem - the contents are saying it is buildings and the buildings are saying it is contents. Not the same firms.

Unless this home has been altered since it was built, the Storage Radiators would have been installed by the original builder, along with dedicated wiring to power them

Look at the documents issued by the Buildings insurer - Amongst all the stuff there will be details of the Complaints Procedure and the regulator to whom you can complain.
  • Its the usual, you pay the premiums, and they try everything to avoid paying out.

NSCH was and is part of the fabric of the dwelling - it was put in at the outset. Along with walls, floors, doors and roof, the kitchens and bathroom suites, and a fixed heating system were installed. Contents, are those items not part of the fabric and which are portable such as furniture and furnishings, clothes and jewellery.

Thanks - do you have a reference for that information? I would like to be able to quote it.

Well I was amazed at the response from the buildings people so I wrote to their complaints dept and they said they agree that it is contents and I have 6 months to complain to the FOS. I plan to do that but I want a bit more information before I put a letter together.

I honestly could understand if I had bought a heater and plugged it in but I have not. It was installed and wired up to economy 7. Well it was not sure if you stiil have that but anyway they charge up at night and heat the place during the day/evening.

Nobody in their right mind would class a storage heater as removable!

Offer them the opportunity to send a bloke around to "try" and move them around, and if he succeeds you will concede that they are part of contents.

Nothing that is attached to dedicated wiring could be classed as contents!
  • I do wish you people had a job sorting out insurance claims!
