Carer's Allowance backdated premium

Hi there, my son was awarded DLA which was backdated to the date of claim (June). I have been awarded Carers allowance as he receives middle rate care. It has not been backdated due to me receiving JSA at that time (now the Carers allowance is paid instead of JSA) but I have been told I would now qualify for the JSA carers premium for that time period (June to now) does anyone know if this is the case and whether the premium will be backdated or does the carers element not get backdated?
Many thanks, so confusing!

Why aren't you claiming Income Support now that JSA has stopped?
Was your JSA.... JSA Conts only?
JSA IB doesn't usually come with CA/CP but it sometimes does ... and I don't know the conditions that you can get it on JSA.0 -
you need to claim income support, should get about 40 quid a week top up.0

You can get income based JSA and Carer's Allowance.
However, the Carer's Allowance is counted as income and deducted from the JSA. A carer's premium is then added to the JSA. So you would get CA, JSA (minus the CA ) plus a Carer's Premium.
If you had been awarded the backdated CA then you would have had an overpayment of JSA. (basically the amount of CA)
Hope this is making sense!
So, since they haven't backdated the CA (in effect keeping the amount that you would have owed in JSA overpayment) then in theory you should be entitled to the Carer's premium for when you were on JSA.
Well, it makes sense to me!
You need to phone Job Centre Plus and ask.0 -
Hi, no I'm not claiming income support, I just stopped claiming jsa and I was so relieved to have been awarded carers allowance for looking after him. I'm almost qualified to get a part time job working more hours than I currently do so I wouldn't be claiming income support then anyway.
Lindyloo thankyou that's what I had worked it out to be and it comes to over £700 so would be great if they do backpay carers premium but I cannot find any cases of it happening online so I'm not going to get my hopes up. My son has actually qualified for dla for the last four years but I didn't know anything about dla and just struggled on trying to cope so now I am getting some financial help it will really change our lives.
