My hubby is in the support group for ESA...i claim carers allowance for him at the moment so we get a carer premium and i believe a disability premium...however I will be needing to give up my carers to my son as I too am ill and have been awarded PIP care component...I am aware we would the carer premium but what happens with the disability premiums now we are both getting PIP.

What rate of PIP Daily living are you both getting?
How can you be CA for caring for your husband
and CA for caring for your son... I didn't think that was possible.0 -
both on enhanced rate of PIP...I do not get carers for my son only my hubby...I will be giving this up and my son will take over as carer0

Is that both getting enhanced PIP Daily Living ?
Your husband at the moment gets ESA + CP (Carer Premium) + EDP (Enhanced Disability Premium)
If you both get PIP DL enhanced, you have 2 options,
either husband claims on his ESA SDP (Severe Disability Premium) £61.10(each) per week for both of you but then no-one can claim Carers Allowance for either of you. and you must both live alone (but together)... so husband would have his current ESA amount + £122.20 SDP per week.
Or if your son is caring and claiming CA for one of you, then your husband will only get 1 lot of SDP = £61.10 per week. and youmust both live alone (but together)
If your son lives with you and you are not getting Child Benefit for him, Then husband cannot claim SDP for either of you. and so his ESA will remain what it is now but he will lose the CP, so it will be ESA + EDP.
If your son lives with you, then as crazy as it sounds, and it is crazy IMHO, but your son can claim CA & IS for caring for you, you can claim CA to care for your husband, So your husband will retain his CP and get ESA + CP + EDP i.e. exactly the same as what he gets now0 -
I know my hubby gets a disability premium it says because he is sick or disabled....I thought there was a standaerd premium for couples if both were sick?0
-
sorry i made a mistake ....we both get the standard rate of PIP not enhanced0

There is no standard disability premium on ESA.
There is EDP, which he is already getting at the couples rate £22.50 (ish)/week because he is in the Support Group, and or because he or you or both gets PIP DL Enhanced
There is SDP £61.10 single £122.20 couple (subject to conditions.)/week
To get this you must live with each other but with no-one else, i.e. alone, and no-one must get CA to care for the one (or both) who qualifies. AND the Qualifier is PIP DAILY LIVING>0 -
I get disability living allowance - high rate mobility and middle rate personal care.
I live with a working partner, and because of this I have been told I dont qualify for the disability premium!!0 -

That is correct MUMZ, the disability premium is means tested - your household income is too high to qualify.
daff duck, as you state you are too unwell to care for your husband you will no longer be entitled to the carers premium.0 -

You wouldn't qualify for the severe disability premium anyway - because you live with someone.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
