Good luck Jim, you are already on the right step, by filtering out the 'nutters' they come in both genders on there . You are more confident than you make out as you are going to meet, so you already have your wits about you (and hopefully she does too) , hope it all goes well and keep us updated whichever way it turns out.0

Don't be put off by her nerves, either! I was so nervous on my first couple of dates with my OH, he says he wasn't sure if I even liked him until our 3rd date! We'd text and chatted so much online, but I can be a bit shy face-to-face and I've never really been a touchy feely person (in terms of holding hands, etc...not hands up jumpers!)
It took a few more takes to properly break the ice, but at one point it just all clicked and over 5 years later we're still very happy!0 -
Remember what you have spoken about and refer to it....
Nothing worse than someone asking basic questions that you have already discussed......makes it seem like you didn't listen.
One of my POF dates arrived with a box of teabags and a packet of gariboldis........we had joked about my "tea habit" in emails.
I got home and my grown up daughter said "omg you met a man who LISTENED"!!
And yep, I married him.....gotta love a man who listens to the silly little bits of our lives and likes and thinks to take gariboldis on a 1st date!

Good luck with the date, I'm sure it will go well and you will enjoy it. I agree with you about POF, I have not had much luck on there and sort of given up with the whole online dating. Let us know how the date goes.0

Okay update-lots of texting through out Saturday, last time I did this texting hadn't been invented but I think it is a great ice breaker as you can compose the words with out nerves (or alcohol) getting in the way.
She called me this morning for our second live chat and it was a lot more relaxed on both our parts- she sounded a lot more at ease and she wants to meet one evening this week after work. I have suggested somewhere near the beach with a sea view as I know from a previous message that this is her favourite view and to pick a time and place and I'll be there.
I feel strangely relaxed and cool about this, i'd have thought that I would be a nervous wreak but after all the messages I am really looking forward to it. I think this may go okay despite my lack of current practice, she has already asked about my past and I have been honest and open about everything, I understand at this age in life everyone has baggage and a back story but I am going to be all about today and tomorrow. Feeling very happy.
I'll let you know how it all goes and I appreciate the words of advice, they really do mean a lot.pickledonionspaceraider wrote: »relax. Be yourself

I hope when you meet up it all goes really well and that you both enjoy spending time together. Have a great time. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
