Cordless phone not working, help please.

I'm trying to help a 90 year old neighbour who has a problem with her cordless phone. The phone attached to the base station works but the other one doesn't, it has recently had new batteries. Does each phone have to be used with the appropriate base? At the moment she has 'handset 2' located on the main base unit, which works, and 'handset 1' on the other base. Would that make any difference? I wanted to swap them over to see but she wouldn't let me in case the other one stopped working.

A DECT handset needs to be registered to a base. Some DECT phones allow you to register handsets but others come pre-registered and cannot be changed - I'd guess that the handsets with them may be locked to that base too but don't know for sure.

One thought - are there really two bases or is one just a charging point? It may be that there is only one base and the handset with new batteries somehow lost it's registration with the base. I'd have a look at any docs (online probably from phone model) or just hunt the menu system.

Yes it is the charging point, the one that just plugs into the electricity. I'll try your suggestions, thanks.
