A car in LA is not just a mode of transport it's a means of self-defence.
Doing what you hope to do without a car is foolhardy at best and dangerous at worst.
Spend the extra money.
Seriously.
Absolute rubbish. Happily managed to do Walk of Fame, Hollywood Sign (from the Hollywood & Highland mall) and Santa Monica without a car.
On the off-chance that Universal is in some gangster run ghetto, then just jump in a cab.0 -

totally rubbish, many people go to LA every year without a car and see the sights safely.
You are probably more likely to have a car accident there than here as its so chocker for traffic! or get car jacked as you drive somewhere you should not.0 -
the first time I stayed In LA I didn't have a car, walked or used the metro everywhere, I stayed at the vibe hotel/hostel which in the less desirable end of Hollywood boulevard and even as a single female traveller walking up and down the boulevard day and night including 2am I never felt in danger and would happily do LA without a car, this year I did do LA with a car as it meant I could travel further and see more attractions. I wouldn't say LA was any more dangerous than any other city.£27.76/£2018 in 20180
