Leaky tent and shop has gone into administration

Bought a expensive tent from a company in July and when used at the end of August was found to be letting in water. When I came back from camping i began sending e mails and trying to contact the company by phone and social media. Finally got through on phone and was told to email -which I did and sent photos. After getting no replies, and just being told to be patient via Facebook, on the 6th September I finally received an email saying they went into administration on 28th August and to forward emails to accounts.
I bought the tent with a credit card so am in the process of trying to claim from them but now they inform me that I have to prove that it is faulty via some sort of report. I have photos that were taken when it was leaking and I am annoyed that I will have to pay to get a report.

You can claim for the report from the credit card co. / bank

Just checking that the tent was over £100? If so the card company are jointly liable, if not then you'll be reliant on visa/mastercards chargeback policy.

Then you have exactly the same rights with the card company as you would have had the retailer.

In other words, they're responsible for any reasonable loss you incur as a direct result of the breach of contract (ie, paying for a report to establish the nature of the fault).

Megs-Mam, if you only bought this tent in July this year then the fault can be assumed to be inherent... i.e. present at the time of sale.

At this point in time, it is for the credit provider to prove otherwise.
They are wrong to ask you to prove anything until they can show that the tent was not faulty at the time of sale.

Perhaps you need to be a bit firm on this point with them.

MSE's Consumer Rights guide may help you with that where it says:
When goods are faulty, if you return them within six months, then it's up to the shop to prove they weren't faulty when you bought them. After this, the burden of proof shifts and it's up to you to prove they were faulty when you bought them.

Have you weathered the tent? Not uncommon for them to leak the 1st few uses.

The stitching needs to weather and swell to seal the holes made when stitching them.

Is it definitely letting in water? Could it be condensation? I have a large tent and when there's 6 of us in there it often becomes damp with condensation which sometimes drips and looks like the tent is leaking

Have you tried the company that produced the tent? I know legally they have no obligation it might be the solution to your problem.

Cant say I've ever had to do this on the many modern tents I've had.
