Hello,
Just done a shop with Sainsburys and on brand match receipt it says as from start of October they are only going to brand match with Asda but not Tesco any more.
Just curious as to what has brought this about?
I have actually got a few pounds money off with brand match so is a good idea.

I don't know either. But if you check the receipt on https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/brandmatch after 9am the following day and input your details on the receipt as specified, there is the shop compared with Tesco and Asda and you are given the biggest coupon. On the few times I get BM coupons, they are based on Asda's prices. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I imagine that with Tesco in free-fall at the moment they don't want to be compared to them at any level£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

They want to show customers, that sainsbury's are just as good as ASDA as atm they are their main competitors. Sainsbury's are doing really well compared to the others, or so I was told.
They are also now doing another thing, where when something is on sale...it doesn't go back up to the full price when it comes off sale. So you 'dont have to wait for a sale, to get the items you love' or something.

Sainsbury's is getting a lot cheaper lately. I like their fruit and veg dept, as it all seems to last longer and is not bad prices, compared to the other big 4.
They have better offers on the same brands that Asda have. For example, they had Persil non bio liquid 60 wash for £7 this week, whilst Asda had same but 40 wash for £5, so 50p cheaper, comparing wash for wash and less packaging used.
In all, I find Sainsbury's products a much better quality, especially their Taste the difference range.0 -
Sainsbury's were always reluctant late-comers to the whole price matching idea. That's probably because they are often more expensive than the other big supermarkets. So they've now decided to cut the amount of money back they will offer by only matching one supermarket and not two.
So now if Tesco have something on special offer, but you shop at Sainsbury's, then you won't get anything back.
I get the impression that they are aiming for the "higher ground" of retail, alongside Waitrose, rather than getting involved in the price war at the bottom end that will start once Tesco realise that just smartening up their shops isn't going to work.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
