Warm Home Discount

Hi,
I believe that there is something I can claim for winter to help me with my electricity and heating bills? We are a couple, both claiming HB and JSA.
I have Asthma which gets quite bad in the winter therefore this would really help me out.
Is this correct? If so, how do I go about applying?

Do you mean perhaps the Warm home discount that is £140 this year for use against the electric bill? If so google it & go to gov website where you will find links to all energy coy's that offer it.0

Warm home discount, that's the one!, I did try to google the Winter Allowence and your right, it was bringing up "before 1952".
I'll have another go at searching with the correct name!.
Is it only electric you can use it towards, not gas?0 -
Yes. Not everyone has gas CH, so the discoynt is given to the electric so that you can use more gas to keep warm.
Can you put up some thermal backed curtains on drafty windows? Ask on freecycle/freegle or look in freebies bit of gumtree. Clean any black mold up as soon as you can. Go to GP & get your asthma drugs checked to make sure they are right 4 U. If U are on income based JSA as a couple prescriptions are free as is dental treatment & if you wear spec's you get a free test/help for frames/lenses.0 -
Something else you can take a look at, British Gas are offering free home insulation and cavity wall something (sorry I forgot what it's called!) and you don't have to get your gas / electricity from them. I think it's also part of the warm home scheme. Take a look at their website - I saw it advertised on the tv last night.0

Just found it:

If the OP is entitled to CWPs, they don't start until November 1st.
You’ll usually get Cold Weather Payments if you get Income Support or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance and have any of the following:- a disability or pensioner premium
- a child who is disabled
- Child Tax Credit that includes a disability or severe disability element
- a child under 5 living with you
