British Gas & Richburns (the irony)

Dear helpers,

I've been with BG and from the moment I contacted them they told me my meter did not exist. I assured them it did and set up a DD with them for dual fuel. Several years later I swapoed my gas to nPower (another story).

I continued to provide meter readings, they came and took meter readings yet my bills and annual statements came bsck 0.00. After repeatedly telling them about it (and one customer service lad telking me to keep quiet!!!!) they sent someone to "safety inspect" the meter. Now they agree that it exists and want £1770 from October 2012 to date.

Ive lost count of heated (no pun intended) phone calls and payment demands ive received. Ive written to them saying thry cant back bill me and I did my level best but today ive received a letter from Richburns saying they are coming to get payment and either fit a prepayment meter or disconnect me too.

This is making me ill and I dont know where to go or what to do. Can anyone advise me?

  • If you're with Npower, they can't change your meter. They wont disconnect the meter and leave you without gas or electric.

If I remember correctly, they can backdate any owed money for 18months.

Granted you did try your level best to get a bill for gas being used. If you had saved the money incase of this eventuality, there wouldn't really be an issue.
  • Sorry, you misunderstand due to my poor explanation. My electricity is stil, with BG and whilst I appreciate you reading my post the condescending advice is unwarranted

If you can prove you kept contacting them, you can only be billed for the last 12 months. They will let you set a payment plan to clear the balance over 12 months including your on going consumption. If need be they may also give you a longer time to clear the balance if it is high.
