Wonga Loan - Incorrect Default

Hi I've never posted on here before but I was wondering if someone could help me...

Last year, as a student, I was (stupidly) a user of PDLs - mainly via Wonga.

However, I paid back every loan in full and on time, or even early. Never did I miss a payment.

I haven't used a PDL for over a year now, so I was horrified yesterday to discover that after checking my credit file through Noddle, Wonga has actually put a default on my account. They claimed I took out a loan in July last year and that it was defaulted in January of this year and the account was closed in February.

I rang up to speak to an advisor from Wonga today, before anything I asked if there was any late payments on account history. He confirmed there wasn't. When I explained about my credit file he could offer no explanation. He confirmed that the loan I took out in July had been paid in full 9 days later (which is exactly what my bank statements also say).

The best the advisor could do was to lodge my complaint and let me know someone would be in touch about it.

I know they will obligated to remove the incorrect default but my question is will I be in a position to ask for compensation?

I am in process of setting up a business and applying for a low interest business loan. This incorrect default is the only mark on my file. I realise that my use of PDL may count against me but as I said I haven't used them for over a year and everything else on my account is fine.

This whole situation has put a halt on my business and who knows how long it will take before it is resolved - apparently your credit file is only updated every 28 days, so I could be a month behind.

Am I in a position to ask for compensation due to this massive stress and inconvenience being no fault of my own?
