Laying patio

Hi, we are laying a new patio following an extension. It will wrap around the back of our house in a u-shape. It will be 38 square metres in total. We are using concrete stone effect slabs (which I have already bought and are on site). They are a mix of 300/450/600mm lengths. There is a nice flat and firm surface to work with.

We're also having a step run along the back of the house which is one brick course high with slabs on top, and about 10 metres wide. Finally there will be about five metres of upright slabs to put into place near the boundary fence, to stop earth coming onto the patio.

We have been quoted £2,100 with no VAT. That covers all the materials apart from the slabs. The guy who quoted is proposing to use jointing compound for the pointing (or whatever you would call it on a patio). He reckons four days' work for two blokes.

Seemed expensive to me - any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks!

I would get another couple of quotes just to see if that is a typical local cost.

Have you got drainage sorted for the patio and the earth area that you are supporting with the other slabs?
  • Thanks for that. Yes, all the drainage is worked out. I am waiting on other quotes but would appreciate views of people on here.
