The British Press and Football Violence

Its that time of year again when England FANS are given a bad name by the mindless (and drunk) few!Today I've read the newspapers and seen the News and it says that England Fans went on the rampage in Portugal last night - the truth is these were not fans they are HOOLIGANS - there is a difference. If you are a true England Fan you go to the tournament to support the team and you are representing the country. Why do the press call those who smash-up other countries, fans? They are simply hooligans and troublemakers and should be banned from attending any event abroad for life! >:(

Your right in some respects they are not true fans........................but the press can rightly call them football fans if that is the reason they are in that country at that time.......surely ???
Whatever you call them ,they are a disgrace to this country :-[0 -

The press shouldn't call them football fans coz they aren't there for the football, they are there for the violence and drunken behaviour. They are hooligans and drunken yobbish louts. They make me so mad! >:( >:( >:( >:(0 -

A very small rant from a journalist
The 'press' do this
The 'media' do that
Actually there's an enormous number of journalists doing a massive range of different things.
The number of times i've done radio programmes debating a subject which callers say "the media never tell you about" and i feel like going "what do you think this is!"
So a tiny plea, don't think of the media or the press as a homogenous group. They are as wide ranging and different as society itself. They range from Living Marxist magazine to MoneySavingExpert.com to Big Brothers Little Brother.

ok ok, why is it always 'hooligans'?
If that was a Saturday night down town and there was a bit of a skirmish a few police would turn up and it'd be sorted in minutes. BUT no, because football is involved abroad riot police turn up heavy handed and storm into the trouble and the situation turns from dodgy into ugly.
Even eye witnesses were saying that the police over-reacted and caused a lot of it - like they usually do.0 -
As I have stated in other threads - the British 'media' love it whenever there is any trouble, even when it is over a hundred miles away from any England match.
Peter Allen from radio 5 just seems intent on stirring up trouble, interviewing all the UEFA reps, Portugeuse officials he can in the hope he can help get England kicked out of the tournament. I am sure that UEFA wouldn't have even consider it if it wasn't from the 'petitioning & lobbying from our 'media'. >:(0 -
I am absolutely fed up when every time a football tournament is around the corner, all talk turns to the controlling of hoolaganism/violence etc.
It is the only game in the world were this behaviour overshadows the actual events.
It is as rife now as it was in the 60's and 70's and probably a lot more sophisticated in its set up.
No matter what the police or any other authorities do to try and prevent this happening, there mindless set of morons hell bent on destruction, and until we get tougher with heavy jail sentances, it will go on.
Thank God for the RBS 6 Nations Rugby. All talk is of Rugby and not bloody nutters. The police will tell you in South Wales that when 72,000 attend a Rugby game, ther a few arrests for drunken disorderly. Across the town at Cardiff City, a 16,000 crowd has to be policed by probably the same number for an International crowd, with 10 times the number of arrests. No matter whats done, Cardiff City cannot rid itself of these hooligans.
Sorry to rant on, but nuff said, I rest my case!!!!!!!!!Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
