I have an Npower energy monitor and have just noticed the batteries need changing.
It takes 3 AA (LR6 or R6) batteries but I noticed in the instructions it says DO NOT use rechargable batteries
anyone know why?

    Two reasons:

    1. The terminal voltage is lower (1.2V)

    2. They tend to not hold their charge over extended periods

Rechargeable's are generally not good in 'slow draw' applications. This is why they are advised not to be used in remote controls.
