First thing you will need to do is determine what type of ram you have. Try one of these:

Once you know the type of ram, you will need to know how much your motherboard supports. Use this page to help with this task.

128mb of ram is really the bare minimum and really 256 would be better.
Its not expensive but it suggests to me that your machine is quite old.
If I were you I would do as suggested above and then buy second hand on EBay, I don't think I would be spending a lot of money on the machine and would probably start looking for some good bargains on the Dell, Novatech and others websites. You can also find some good refurb bargains around.0 -
How weird. When you sign up for a connection package from an ISP, all you are buying is a means of connecting to the internet. The type of computer you use to view web pages should make no difference whatsoever. My only guess is that it is a company like AOL that requires you to install their own software, and this needs minimum RAM size to run.
I've connected to the net with a computer running less than 128MB RAM with no problems at all.

Crucial the link Rex gave does to notch ram and affordable prices and has an on-line memory configurator for the type of pc you have. I get all my ram from Crucial directly cutting the middle man out, they are fast, usually next day delivery if ordered early in the day.
