I was referring to company policy ( depending on what firm you work for) & it usually changes according to government guidelines anywho companies are not required to give any information in terms of references
currently I have given the option to mt colleagues that I would give them a reference without hesitation as why would I want to stand in someones way to get employed??? Luckily I have not experienced horrible employees but managers, I've encountered a few nasty pieces0 -
So you haven't got a single payslip or even a payrise letter or contract from when you were with them?0

Data protection act, freedom of information to get a history or record of employment from your previous employer or hrmc to provide evidence of tax, ni paid by the company
Best and first option is to approach the previous employer in person (or someone inside you had a decent relationship with) & try to get somes of evidence0 -

It would be DPA. FOI is not relevant here. The problem is they have eight weeks in which to respond which is too long. Also, if they don't respond or only supply part of the information you are little further forward. OK, you might be be able to get the information commission to give them a minor slap on the wrist but it hasn't solved the problem.
The only realistic option is the personal approach but the OP needs to find a balance between getting a result and making them dig their heels in further.0
