I have a desktop commuter and all was well until last week.
Trying to connect to the Internet and a message that its connecting but it doesn't ?
I have tried system restore and that isn't making any difference.
Any suggestions please.
There has been another thing I have noticed is that the egg timer when using the mouse is going most of the time.
The last time this happened I took it to the shop and it cost me £60.

Help please.

Is the [STRIKE]commuter[/STRIKE]computer connected to you network via Wireless or Ethernet Cable?
    Is it Windows Xp/Vista/7/8

How are you posting your question ? I would guess phone/tablet
Have you tried switching off your router

Do you have an xp disc to make a repair or to run sfc?

Have a look in device manager for any yellows to see if any drivers have gone.

You 'think' it's wireless-can you maybe check? If there's no ethernet cable connected then it must be wireless. If wireless, can your wireless adapter on the PC 'see' the network you are connecting to on your iPad?

Does this system have a brand name and a (full) model number?

The constant Egg Timer cursor would suggest that there is something running in the background. It'll be worth checking task manager to see if there are any applications or processes that are using alot of CPU time

Do you have Trusteer Rapport installed ? If so try disabling it.

Just offering this as a suggestion as there was a problem on here last week whereby the internet was connecting but only for email and not for browser access. So slightly different to you problem but worth trying disabling Rapport if you have it.
