Postcards being returned

Options
In the past fortnight I've had about 4 or 5 postcards being returned to me. All because the postie can't be bothered to read which address is to and from!!

Rant over.

I write TO in big letters on one side, on the other I write FROM...

Then on the from side, I always make sure I write my address as:
Joe Bloggs, 15 Anywhere Crescent, Anywhereville, AN1 1AB

Rather than the traditional everything on separate lines.

I also write my phone number / email underneath the postal address, and close enough to it that postie would have to see it.

    So far, so good... :)

    Good luck!! :D

Oh, some people also draw a cross through the from address...

I do exactly the same, except where I put my own details I turn the card around and put my details in portrait side and the To on landscape side.

I buy cheap postcards with pictures/photography on it. The plain ones from the £ shop where you can write on both sides are the main ones that keep coming back.

How random... It does make you wonder whether they mess about on purpose, doesn't it?! :undecided

I think someone on here complained to Royal Mail about the same problem, and they were sent an apology and some stamps to make up for the wasted ones...

Forget to & from. draw a diagonal line through your address. These sort of items are machine sorted into walk sequence.
So staff tend to go into auto pilot. They see 1,2,3 wherever street in order and sort accordingly.
On the street it can be the same. The line through the address tends to stand out more.

I've had a few come back in the past but since I've been putting my address diagonally across the back - so far none have come back.

Or write so badly that the machine struggles.... Ah, but then so would the company running the comp... :rotfl:

Stamps are expensive enough without the problems of incorrect delivery... Automation or not, there's no excuse for these things not to be overseen by human eyes. Though, I guess, we'll never know how many postcards were wrongly auto-sorted, and then corrected by human beings... :o

Pop the returns in your bag and when you're going past a post office take them in, you should at least be given replacement stamps.

no need. The item is still valid for its original journey

I often write 'thankyou' underneath my phone number or postcode too and I think that helps.
