Natwest error on Credit file

Hi,
Hoping someone on here can help, I had a bank with Natwest about 6 months ago, I decided to move banks to Lloyds and the switch went through really quick and easy (or so I thought!).
I checked my credit file on Tuesday night and its saying I have a late payment with Natwest, very confused as I didn't have an over draft and as far as I was aware the account was closed 6 months ago but the missed payment is showing as this month?
I went into Natwest today to find out why this happened and spoke to the branch manager, he checked the system and said that he would have to 'go upstairs as the computers there give him more information' I waited for about 15 minutes he came back and told me that it was a 'System error'? my account has been closed and everything should be fine next month.
I asked him about the late payment showing on my credit file and he said it would just disappear next month when the account is marked as settled, is this true or will it stay on my file forever?
Any help will be appreciated I am new to all this so not sure how to get rid of a false entry or where I stand with any of it.

They can correct prior months data in each cycle but keep an eye on it. I had issues with what NatWest was putting on my CRA file, they'd apologise, send a cheque for compensation and correct. The very next month the wrong data would appear again and we went through the same cycle again.
Took 4 attempts, and 4 cheques, for them to finally resolve it spanning about 6 months0
