I am thinking of trying to stream live video feed or feeds from work to clients who would be mostly in other parts of the UK or Ireland.
The reason for the live stream is that it would be during a sequence of tests and they would I am sure request to observe certain areas or look further at consequences of the testing as it was happening.
So although an upload option may be useful ..The real value is the ability to see something and reposition the camera to see in further detail.
I have the site covered with Wifi on a 5ghz frequency
The test is observed from the inside of a steel test chamber that is about 10 m high ..5ghz seems to work poorly through solid stuff.
I haven't been given a budget ..but as we are talking tests that run into the tens of thousands a method of reducing the travel time of interested parties would be fairly well funded.
So what I need some help on :
Is there any equipment that would be better to look at ..smart camera maybe ?
laptop with web cam ?
or something like a go pro head cam that live streams ?
secondly would it need to be live stream ?
The test lasts from 15 minutes to 55 minutes and observations are conducted throughout ..
So a minute delay would be acceptable ..just might be a bit annoying for the observers ..like those guys on earth moving the Mars lander.
Turn left ..wait a minute ..not so much ..wait a minute ..That might be worse than anything.
So I can give more information if people have any ideas ..
We have a 10mb down / Will find out the up connection which I might be able to improve if it looks like this can even be done.
Anyone have any ideas or tried anything similar ?

If you only have a small number of people just use Skype or similar and do a video conf with some smartphones or a laptop.
More people Id use a laptop buy a separate webcam so you can get a better picture and move it about easily and or tripod mount it, software wise VLC will allow you to stream the feed out but it might be a bit of a pain to setup firewalls etc0 -
how would the user connect to the VLC stream ?
A browser link ?0 -
Twitch TV for the live stream? It's not just for gaming you know! Easy to send clients a browser link then.
Couldn't you have a HD cam on a tripod and hardwire that to a router outside the test chamber? Easy to move the camera in that case and a proper HD feed so that the cients can actually see what goes on. Hardwiring to outside the chamber should remove the 'solid stuff' issue.0 -
I will take a look at twitch thanks0

Is twitch an open link ?
Can I have a secure in the sense that it can't be publicly searched live feed.
Invite only or passworded ?
The testing like any R&D is almost always client sensitive and results of any tests could not be seen by anyone other than those invited to watch.
I will join twitch and read up though.0 -
As for the hard-wiring, it is probably the best option as I already send about 9 cat 5 cables in to the chamber to record movement during testing so one more cable wouldn't be a problem .
Next to the test area is a kind of mobile office with 240 power and room for anything we would need pc wise ..there are already two pc's inside.0
