I have £3000 to invest, no mortgage or loans to pay off, debt free...with interest rates so low, I am looking for advice as to where to put it away for about 5 years, at least.

Investing puts capital at risk. Interest rates maybe low. So how much can you afford to lose. If you need the cash then stick the money on deposit.0

Split it between two TSB Classic Plus accounts. Select paperless statements and communications, and move £500 back and forth each month to get 5%AER. Move it if/when rates change.
Or if you've also got a large emergency fund and planned spending fund squirreled away, you could open an S&S ISA with a funds platform and buy one or more funds suitable to your risk profile and desired outcome.
