Hi
I was driving my Ford Focus today when I heard a noise and then the steering went really heavy. I could still turn the wheel but it was really stiff. There was a leak coming from under the bonnet. Spoke to a local garage who can take a look at it tomorrow but they suspect it is the Power Steering Pump.
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much this is likely to cost to repair?
Many thanks

Pump starts at £100, maybe same again for labour; but there are too many variables and unknowns to say with any deal of accuracy0

Thanks for your reply. Was hoping it would be around £100 in total but have been winding myself up reading horror stories on the internet!0

Maybe the belt broke and took out a pipe, causing the noise and leak.
Have you looked under bonnet?
Did any lights come on?
Do you know anyone handy with a spanner?0 -
Ford garage, £400 fitted.
Indy garage, £150-200 fitted.
Cheap way, Ebay used part, £15, local back street garage, cash payment for fitting, £50.0 -
And if the steering rack is the source of the leak or has been damaged by driving with insufficient fluid, then it may be a new pump and steering rack, could be talking four figures at dealer prices.0

Rack £199.99 (used to sell these in a motor factors along with the fiesta ones and common to go)
Pump £75.00 plus surcharge
I would replace both rack ends at £18.00 the pair there abouts
power steering fluid £6.99
£200 £250 labor.
if just a hose or clip you could be talking less than £30.00.0
