Medical Insurance renewal

Just after a bit of advice.

In short, I want to know whether changing my private health insurance plan (but sticking to the same provider) would mean I'd no longer be covered for pre-existing conditions?

This is something I should have done several years ago as my inaction has not been very moneysaving...

My health insurance is due for renewal. The premiums keep going up each year (by a large amount). I've only ever made one claim, which was over 10 years ago and for something relatively minor. I'm also still relatively young (late 30s).

Using a fake name (but the same date of birth and address) I got a test quote from my provider online. For a much lower amount (but the same level of cover and excess). I'm going to call to ask for my premiums to be lowered. At the same time I'm considering slightly changing my plan (to improve cover, which I'm prepared to pay a little extra for).

I'm not certain but from what I can tell my current plan is no longer offered (I suppose it might just be that they've changed the exact name of the plan).

If I change my plan, would pre-existing conditions still be covered? I'd still be with the same provider but could they argue I was a new customer due to the plan change?

Yes they could argue you need new declarations for a new policy. So get this clarified before doing anything.

That's just what I was concerned about. My current plan is fairly good so I might just stick with it, but I'll see what they say about changing the plan.

    Thanks again.
