iPad message: not enough storage to back up

I have been getting this message for over a week and it tells me to purchase more storage from iCloud.

I've gone into Settings, General, usage and deleted a few apps I don't need/use but it hasn't made any difference. In fact the storage has stayed the same.

I don't want to purchase more storage and pay monthly. My iPad 2 is 64gb. Any suggestions what to do please? I do have a lot of photo's on it hence the reason 64gb but I have loads of room for more photo's so don't think this could be the problem.

At a loss :o. Many thanks.

I had this message when trying back up too. You only get 5 gig of free storage provide by apple. I removed my photos by connecting to my PC and backed up onto removable media. Then deleted most photos from my 32 gig iPad and then it backed up fine.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!

Thanks. I wondered if it was all the photo's. Will give that a go and see what happens.

What irritates me is that I have an iPhone an iPad and an iPad mini. Yet I still only get 5 gig free storage total as they are all linked to my same account. Yet if I were to use different account names I would get 5 for each giving a total of 15.

Apple are discriminating against owners of more than one i device by restricting their free storage to a total of 5. They should give 5 per device. I like the products but think their policy stinks and is clearly not a customer focussed policy!

Set them up as different accounts then and use the friends and family option to share your purchases across all of them?

Personally dont use iCloud for storage at all so 5gig is more than enough across "my" 5 iOS devices
