Letting agents can be very variable in how well they check out potential tenants. I've known some to be really thorough. But others have simply accepted an email response for references.
I would check out a lodger myself, because it's often about individual compatibility and lifestyle etc.
I would check their employer etc though. If they work as a primary school teacher, it's unlikely they will start dealing drugs from your house etc.0 -
It was indeed a tenant, so a little different from OP. I would continue to credit check but quite a few members on here thought it was unnecessary.
I'm surprised anyone would think credit checking a potential tenant was unnecessary. It's usually a standard activity along with references and confirming their income/employment status.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
