faulty tv

Not sure if I have the right forum but I just wondered if anyone knows what the manufacturer does if a tv is sent back by the retailer as faulty on delivery. Are they fixed and resold or just binned.

As an ex employee of large white / brown / IT goods goods manufacturer. Here is what used to happen with them:

Manufacture guarantee, returns are tested, and then repaired and sold off to the trade as graded stock (A, B or C) or scrapped / stripped for spares depending in the item and fault.

Bought out guarantee, the item is the responsibility of the retailer, so they have their own policy's regarding returns. Is not returned to the manufacturer.

    Depends on many factors.

Some are repaired and returned to the original customer

Some are repaired and returned to the next customer who sends the same unit back

Some are repaired and sold to trade or customers

    Some are broken for parts

Some will be put in staff shops either repaired or still faulty.

The above may be done by the retailer, distributor or manufacturer depending on exactly what the relationships are between all the parties.

My first job was working for a very large retailer of pretty much everything outside of food but mainly the lower end of the quality range (with a few exceptions). Almost all our returns that werent of resellable quality were sent to the staff shops as long as there werent safety concerns as our agreement with most of our suppliers was that we took the losses on the chin in exchange for lower wholesale prices. Got my first own TV that way because the stand was missing :T
