The Property Ombudsman

Has anybody had any dealings with the Property Ombudsman, TPOS on the web? looking to sell my house & came across these people.

Comments

  • The Property Ombudsman (TPOS) is an independent organisation that give a right of redress to people who think they have been wronged by an agent. They can impose a 'fine'/compensation awards where necessary. They don't sell property as your question seems to indicate.

When chosing an estate agent or property buying company to go with it is worth checking that they are regulated by the TPOS. It generally means they're a reputable company.

With property buying companies it's slightly different, make sure that they're members of The National Association Of Property Buyers (NAPB).

Hope that helps you, if you need anything else, let me know :)

    Jonathan.

Advertising your business here on the forum is not allowed. I've reported this but if you delete your signature your account may not be cancelled.....
  • Thanks G_M, didn't realise that wasn't OK. So I've removed my signature.

You could remove the promo mention of NAPB, too .....
  • Hmm, I disagree there googler. I think it's worth a mention, it's new and not many people know about it. It's is a goverment approved association with strict rules for any members, not just a random company.

Check the TPOS news area for 14 May 2014 for proof.

I'm not here to advertise or promote anything, I put my company in my signature so that I was being up front so as not to look "sneaky" and I've removed it now as G_M asked.

I answer questions for people all over the internet. Yes it COULD help my buisness, great if it does!, but I'm not here to directly advertise my company or sell a product. I'm here to help people, it's what the internets all about! :)

Feel like I've got a bit of a cold start here :(

googler - I agree with Jonathan about this one.

We often point new landlords at the RLA/NLA, or advise tenants to look for ARLA letting agencies etc

Or house buyers to seek NICEIC electricians etc

I may be wrong but it appears the NAPB is a similar reputable professional body.

Jonathan: don't be put off. Positive and constructive contribution is welcome!
  • Thanks, I'll try and check daily for any property related questions I can help with :)

If others concur, then I defer to yours and their knowledge, but to the uninitiated, it just looks like self-promotion of his/their own trade association......

Personally I would make a distinction between a trade association and a private business, but it ain't my call. Doubtless the mods will decide, in their usual impartial manner.....
