Virgin Media direct debit fee

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could advise the best step forward after complaining twice about VM's £5 monthly fee for not paying via DD.

I downloaded a letter from the Watchdog website and sent it to VM twice as they didn't bother responding to the first letter.

The response from VM was basically that they had to charge this much so they could provide such an 'excellent service' and it wouldn't be fair to pass a cost on to their DD paying customers. They also said that they were aware that other companies charge less but they felt that they include their costs under different banners therefore disguising it from their customers, but they would prefer to be honest!

Anyone have any suggestions?

many thanks
Caz

I would either take my custom elsewhere or pay by DD & save myself £5/mth

Just set up the Direct Debit then and save the money. It isn't that much hassle and is certainly a lot easier (and will be cheaper) than sending a cheque in.
  • Thank you for your replies however it's not so easy for us to set up DD because OH's wages doesn't get paid into his account on the same day every month and we pay our bills as and when wages go into our account. My wages go towards nursery fees and so it can't come out of my wages.

Also, why should they get away with £5 charge compared to other companies charging this over a quarter e.g. Powergen.

OH want's to change to Sky but I've heard that their customer service is just as bad Virgin Media.
  • p.s. also I have been doing some forum research and it would appear that some VM customers have had problems with DD and VM i.e. taking too much out, not taking anything out at all and the cutting them off etc.

... of the numerous problems I've had with them, DD has never been one of them - they have always taken the right amount at the right time. You may notice I said "numerous problems", and wonder why I'm still with them...... it's something you alluded to earlier, namely that I found Sky to be even worse.
