Wet Room - distance from shower head to radiator

I'm having a small shower room fitted in my flat. It will be 2.2m x 1.1m, and I can't decide whether to have a wet room with just a glass hinged panel separating the rainforest shower from the room, or have a shower enclosure with a sliding door.

With the wet room, I would be able to push the glass panel back against the wall when the shower isn't in use, to make the room seem bigger. But the problem is, when standing under the shower head, I will only be 60cm from the towel rail.

Do you think that is too close? Will the towels just get soaking wet?

If it is, then I should probably just have an enclosure…

Advice appreciated!

How high will the hinged panel be?
  • It will be 200cm high... But that wouldn't block the towel rail from the shower area. It will block the shower area from the door to the room..

I'm not quite clear where your towel rail is in relation to the actual shower - opposite? Also, how far up the wall is your towel rail?

I have just had a wetroom installed with a rainforest showerhead and a curved hinged door that can be pushed back against the wall.

Our main showering 'area' in our wetroom is roughly 1.3m long by 0.75m from wide. If you were standing facing the wall with the shower equipment attached, the hinged door would extend out 0.8m from the wall on your right hand side.

The door blocks most of the spray, but as the showerhead sticks out 30cm from the wall fixing, we are far enough back that the water spray bounces off our bodies and manages to get out through the 0.6m gap between the edge of the door and the opposite wall by about an extra foot. Another half a foot out from this is the toilet, and I have on occasion found some water droplets on the toilet seat. So an extra splishy splashy shower can fling the droplets around.

Inside this shower area I have nothing on the walls anywhere because it is within the splash zone.

If you think after what i have described that your towel rail will get wet, I would personally move your towel rail. Nothing beats a rainforest shower in the morning :D and being able to move the door back against the wall after makes a small room look huge. They also look very funky. You'll be making excuses to have a shower all the time. We've had it in place for about three months now and I still feel like of those women on the herbal essences ads! :rotfl:

Would you like me to PM a link to a picture so you can get a sense of scale?
  • Thanks for the info. That showering area is very similar in size as what ours will be (0.75x1.1).

The towel rail will be opposite, and to the right. So diagonally across from the where we will stand under the shower.

Unfortunately there isn't really anywhere else for it to go as its such a small space!

The only other option is to put the shower and the glass panel at the other side of the room. But that will mean that you have to push the panel back against the towel rail once you're finished showering - not convenient for grabbing your towel! And also it will mean that the wooden door to the room might get splashed (this is opposite the towel rail)

    ahhhhh!
  • I think I may have thought of a solution - I could have a fixed glass panel, about 30cm, next to the radiator. As well as the hinged glass door :)
  • Can't you include a towel hook somewhere within the room but outwith the wet zone?

Therefore no towels on the radiator when showering
