HSBC refunded late payment, will it show?

Hi

I noticed a Late Payment charge of £12 on my CC and rang up HSBC. Turns out I made two payments on my July statement and effectively nothing on my August one. They said if I had done the second payment six hours later it would have been on my Sept statement, I was just a few hours too early :(

They have refunded the £12, but didn't seem sure with regards to whether it will leave a black mark on my credit report. My brother thinks them refunding the £12 means it will be OK, but I'm not so sure. The lady said often one late payment isn't something that will tend to show up anyway?! I also don't know how quickly it might or might not show on Experian for me to check..?

Any advice please? :)

ETA: Title should say Late Payment CHARGE..! :o

It is possible they may record this (despite the goodwill refund).
However a lot of lenders won't in this situation.

If you check your credit file next month and find they have then I would ask them if they will remove it.

    Thank you Tixy :)

Do you know if there is a certain time I should look at my report, ie. should I wait til end of Oct, a full month after the charge or do Experian update the records quite regularly?

Depends where you're checking. Noddle tends to be a couple of months behind. Different banks update the CRA's in different periods and dates etc. I'd just wait a couple of months and check then.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
