Hi
Does the student finance pay for the whole year straight away to the uni or do they pay instalments through the year. I know they pay the maintenance grant and living allowance in instalments. I think that's 4 times a year.
If you are not happy at uni and think of leaving. How do you stop the next instalments being paid? If they leave after 2 or 3 weeks do they calculate cost for the 2 or 3 weeks and only charge for that amount? Or do they charge you for the whole year?
A friend worried that there son will be charged for whole course if he leaves.

Things will get better day by day.

Student grants and loans are paid three times a year.
I guess 're tuition fees, it will depend on the uni. My youngest withdrew after 4 weeks and was fortunate that the uni gave students 4 weeks grace so no tuition fees were payable. If a student does leave they have to write and inform student finance which should stop any further payments being made. They will calculate how much the student is entitled to for the period they were at uni and anything over this they will ask for it to be repaid.
The other consideration (if applicable) is whether they have signed a rental contract for accommodation?
I know some will post here saying that a few weeks isn't enough time tell but for my youngest it was! They went to uni the following year, completely different course, qualified this summer and starts work next week:D0
