Hope you pass, but please do be aware that a lot of places won't take newly qualified lorry drivers, most (in order to satisfy insurance terms) will only hire those who have at least 2 years experience. I know, bit of a catch-22 if no-one hires newly qualified how are you supposed to get the experience.
I only know this as my next door neighbour is a HGV trainer

Yeah I've looked at all of that. Got it sorted and know some big companies that take on new drivers (and train them first for licence).
It is a bit daft how many companies won't take on without experience. If every company had that stance we would soon run out of lorry drivers all together haha.
  • Oh BTW - I'm !!!!!!! female & I passed my PCV 1st time - will you be able 2 for hgv cl1?

Another massively irrelevant post to my question. You really are struggling here aren't you?

Advice from anybody actually working in the field is invaluable, particularly as they could be a useful contact for you.

Regarding benefits, you just have to accept that there is no appropriate benefit for somebody in your circumstances and make your plans accordingly.
  • You're not that bright are you?

He assumed me to be ignorant and stupid.

Well, I've a good few degrees in numerate subjects, and earn my living im a mathematical subject, so I'm reasonably happy to describe myself as, at the very least, bright.

I think that where you are going wrong here is by thinking that he was making an unwarranted assumption about your intelligence. From what you've written so far, he seems to be spot on.

Of course, a recently let go guy who hopes to drive lorries may well be a genuis, and simply be choosing a job that requires very little intellect as he's sick of life at the particle physiics lab, so I won't jump to the same conclusion.
