Has my DS grown out of naps?

Thanks Annie, it always makes you feel better when you know it's not just your child going through this.
Yeah I've been reading up on it and some people said mine still naps at 4, that's what confused me as I thought surely if some kids are still napping at 4 then he can't have grown out of them already. Like you say though, each to their own.
I'll see what the next few days without a nap brings.0 -
Thanks 4nnabella.
Yes I think he must be in limbo too. I guess this is just another learning curve for me in the school of parenting!

He might be in that transitional stage. at about that age mine would have a nap every few days but not every day. Mine were napping most days at 2.5 but not at all at 3. Some children still nap at 4 but my eldest was a school three weeks after his 4th birthday so he couldn't have if he'd wanted to.0

my wee man just turned 2 and doesnt nap everyday, gradually not needing them0

I'd try him without a nap and see how he goes. My DS hasn't needed one since 18months and even before then it was only a short one (insomniac child!) otherwise he wouldn't go to sleep till 10pm! When we were phasing it out, a short 10-20 minute catnap (usually in the car) helped see him through till bedtime and now, at 2 years 5 months we usually do some quiet stuff - reading or TV just after lunch.0

NAPS not nappies. I.e sleeping in the daytime0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
I feel a bit better about it now, was feeling like I was neglecting his need for a nap and giving in to him but I'll see how he goes without one and maybe just put him down at the weekend for one if he needs it.
Fufu - I'm talking about him sleeping in the daytime not wearing nappies.0 -
Bless you Fufu for your good intentions. No nappies are involved in anyway; just a query about whether child has grown out of having an afternoon nap!!!0

In order to heighten your chances of a good day time nap at this stage, is to make sure your DS has lots of exercise in the morning.
Soft play centres for wet days, parks in the dry. Walks to the supermarket or library, swimming etc.
In terms of when baby comes, see if your parents will continue to have your son on a couple of days a week, you might just find you need the break.
You might find some days you don't get a nap at all, and others it will catch up with him.
On days without a nap you might need to look at giving supper at 4pm so the blood sugar levels don't drop too low and have a temper tantrum, then bath, milk and a nice story towards 6pm as he is likely to go out like a light. Your parents might be able to do this if they have him during that time.0 -

You might be better doing a nap every other day. Nap to no-nap cold turkey is tough on everyone!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
