Hi, im new to this forum so unsure if im posting in the right place or not ( sorry if im in the wrong place :-) )

I have a current account with santander and about 4 years ago i rang them to ask for an arranged overdraft i said i would like a limit of £500 which they gave me, the reason i needed an overdraft limit was because i thought it would be wise as my car was not reliable and me and my partner was due to have a baby so thought it would be a good back up plan if needed. Long story short my car broke down and i had to use my overdraft to the limit :-( , i keep trying to pay it back so im in credit but things keep popping up, it started off as a capped fee so i would pay £20 a month fee for every month im overdrawn but i got a letter this morning saying my fee is £33 a month.

I am struggling to get out of my arranged overdraft and also struggling to pay the fee's every month ( i know its my own fault), im on a minimum wage job and all my bills are paid on time and providing for my daughter, we now have another baby on the way so my funds will be VERY tight now and could do without paying the £33 a month fee's as i cant seem to get out of my overdraft.

Iv looked up everywhere but cant seem to make out if i can claim these fee's back as it is an arranged overdraft limit and do i have to be in credit to reclaim them back ??

o and i never go over my arranged over draft limit so im always within the £500 limit.... i thought i would just mention that.

Can anyone help and thanks for reading while i waffle on :-).

You will struggle, the reason being that the alternative is an unauthorised overdraft fee.

So you could claim the fees back but then they could just apply the unauthorised overdraft fee, rescind the authorised credit facility and request repayment of the overdraft amount.

Also don't forget that you asked for this authorised overdraft. The bank was actually doing you a favour in giving you an authorised credit facility.
  • Thank you for the reply , i knew it would be a long shot but worth a try.

When i took out the arranged overdraft i was thankful for them helping me but it used to be a low fee then they
sent me a letter saying they are charging more ,then they capped it and now this time i didnt get a letter they just raised it so i didnt know where i stood.

That's irrelevant and in no way a reason you could reclaim overdraft fees.
If you did you'd still pay for your arranged overdraft AND an unauthorised overdraft fee.
