Bathroom plastering & tiling

Hello all.
I have an old bathroom (approx 2m by 2m) which desperately needs retiling, and the walls are not in great shape underneath.
I've been quoted ~£250 just for the plastering- that would mean I remove the tiles (not too hard surely?), unplug sink and toilet (sounds alarming) and then a family member completes the tiling.
I've also got a separate quote for £1200 for the whole job- removing tiles and sink/toilet, plastering, tiling and materials for a week long job. This is in London where obviously everything is more expensive cos we're all millyunaires....
I work full time, have a hectic life and limited time to chase people for quotes (so many never ring back). Don't mind paying a fair price for it all to be done in one go, but not sure if this is too steep or not. Also, is it normal to be asked to pay part of the costs upfront?
Thanks in advance.

Though not a bargain, £1200 is not that unfair at all, I take it that includes disposing of all the rubbish as well.....
£250 for plastering is not either.
For London that is.....0 -
Thanks cddc- it includes rubbish disposal and they can start the job soon which helps. They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Are they recomended? Starting soon can also mean they aren't that busy/possibly not as good?
For soemthing like this I wouldn't pay up front for anything.0 -
Just as an update- the job's been done and looks fine to me (well, anything would have been an improvement on the orange 70s tiles which were literally dropping off).
I found them through Check A Trade which looks to be pretty useful if you don't know where to start with local tradesfolk. They are an EYESORES!!!!0
