To pay or not to pay?!

Morning All!

So I nipped into a smart parking car park earlier today (no longer than 10 minutes), I didn't have a ticket on my car and came back to a parking charge notice.

I fully understand this is my own doing and I will pay my £45 but I was reading on this forum that if you live in Scotland and receive one of these you can ignore them - is this correct?

Help!

One thing that isn't correct is your thinking of paying £45 for a short stay (do you honestly think that punishment fits the 'crime'?). This is a private organisation demanding your money!

And in any case you can safely ignore this in Scotland (keeper liability does not apply there) provided you do not reveal who the driver was, so make absolutely no contact with the PPC - despite any urge to do so!

You'll get a series of letters, just ignore them, but do file them safely - standard advice for letters received from anyone alleging a debt against you.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Ys - if you are thinking on paying, get lost!

However, you can safely ignore this and all the increasingly hysterical threatening letters that follow. See the Newbies Sticky for the current position in Scotland and the pre-POFA letter chain thread for a fair idea of the rubbish they will send you. :)
  • Thanks for the replies.

I have read the stickies I just wanted to make sure! A couple of weeks ago I nearly lost out on mortgage due to a £9 o2 bill which defaulted in 2010 - that's why I'm a bit nervy! I also would have accepted responsibility as I should have put a ticket on and the majority of people who have been done by this lot of overstayed in a parking zone.

One last question - if I don not pay this will it reflect on my credit score?

    Thanks again :)

It won't - this is all lies.

They would have to take you to court, win and you fail to pay the judgement for it to go on your credit record - and that won't be happening in Scotland! :D
