Repairing uPVC window locks

I have a couple of upvc window locks that seem to be jammed shut.

I removed the white handle and the square hole it fits into has shattered.

Any tips on getting this open so I can remove and replace, or if beyond my capabilities recommend a locksmith/window fitter near Wolverhampton.

Can' be that hard if i can just get the thing open.

You can buy new handles, from places like Screwfix, B&Q etc. If it's the bit in the handle that takes the bar that's broken, you should be able to just put a new handle on the bar that's already there, and the window should then work.
  • I just replaced all ours for chrome ones, cost £48.70 for 18 handles on e bay. Took about half an hour to replace them all.

Turns out the actual mechanisms had broken, it wasn't the handles.

After reading the Checkatrade thread I decided to call a chap from there who removed the strips slotted in the window edge and replaced.

He got it open with a bent L shaped wire.

Smiffy that sounds like a bargain, they are at least a tenner each at B&Q, mine are looking a little ratty so an upgrade may be on the cards now i know it's only two screws.
