It's probably worth him applying. In 3 years that not unreasonable especially if he can prove what he did with it

This is for a friend but it is easier to write it as me as he does not have a MSE account.

I have no intention of applying for benefits.

It was embarrassing enough when I was on the dole.

I used to get pension credit and council tax benefit until my endowments paid out making me mortgage free and then my works pensions gave me a lump sum making my savings jump from <£500 to £23,000.

This caused me to lose all the benefits I was getting.

In the 3 years since then after getting a new kitchen installed and a holiday a year my savings are now less than the threshold to start receiving the benefits I was getting before.

If I was to apply for these benefits again would I be accused of deprivation of capital and these benefits refused?

There is no upper threshold for pension credit as far as I am aware. There is a notional income attributed to capital above £10,000, but no upper cut off currently. Was your friend only getting a small amount of pension credit?
